Our History

Northwoods Arts Council was founded in September 1993 by seven community members who shared a vision for bringing the arts to our area. Since then, NAC has grown into a valued community organization that supports and presents arts programming for residents and visitors alike.

One of our signature events, the Northwoods Art & Book Festival, began in 1995 and continues today as the longest running art and literature festival in Minnesota. Over the years, Northwoods Arts Council has expanded its work to include programs such as the Lakeside Concert Series, author events, and other arts opportunities that enrich community life in Hackensack and the surrounding region.

Northwoods Arts Council meets in person on the second Monday of each month at 10 a.m., April through October. From November through March, meetings are held on Zoom. If you are interested in attending, please provide your email so that we can connect with you.
